Qigong (pronounced ‘chee gung’) translated from the Chinese, literally means 'working with energy'. Qigong is an ancient Chinese discipline that uses breathing, meditation, visualisation, and repetitive physical exercises to cleanse and strengthen the body. Because of its focusing and relaxation techniques, Qigong can be beneficial for treating:
Stress
Pain
Insomnia
Bowel problems
High blood pressure
Anxiety
Posture
Depression
Improve flexibility and balance
Tai Chi and Kung Fu both descended from Qigong, but this discipline is traditionally practiced to keep your body in harmony rather than as a method of self-defence. There are two types of Qigong: internal and external. Internal Qigong is practiced to promote self-healing. External Qigong is a form of psychic therapy that involves the transfer of qi from a Qigong master to another person. The master may touch areas on your body or simply pass his hands over your body. The extra qi received by you from the master is said to balance your life force and promote healing.
Some people find Qigong easier to do that Tai Chi.
