About Feldenkrais Method, Awareness Through Movement (ATM) and Functional Integration (FI)...
Feldenkrais aims to access the processes involved in the body’s nervous systems to change and refine their functioning, which can ‘re-educate’ the body to behave and react differently.
Feldenkrais is recognised for its demonstrated ability to:-
- Improve posture
- Improve flexibility
- Improve co-ordination
- Improve self-image
- Alleviate muscular tension
- Alleviate pain
Feldenkrais is of particular benefit for:-
- People who want to move and lie more comfortably
- For those with restricted movement
- Chronic pain
- Psychological and neurological problems
- Performing artists
- Athletes
Through personal experiences we adopt patterns of physical and psychological behaviour. These patterns are programmed into our nervous system and often become inhibitive or dysfunctional which in turn can create other problems. The Feldenkrais Method aims to free us from habitual patterns and allow for new patterns of thinking, moving and feeling to emerge. It does so through the use of movement, bio-mechanics, psychology and martial arts.
On a fundamental level, Feldenkrais incorporates two applications: Awareness Through Movement which involves gentle exercise and highly-developed movement sequences to harness natural intelligence and Functional Integration which can painlessly address serious muscular, skeletal and nervous system problems. Each have their own methods that involve attention, perception, imagination, intuition, manipulation and reasoning.
