About Chelation Therapy and EDTA...
Chelation therapy is a therapy by which repeated administrations of a weak synthetic amino acid (EDTA, ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid) into your veins gradually dissolves away mineral deposits in the cardiovascular system. EDTA latches onto and binds heavy metals and calcium, creating substances that can be removed from your body in urine.
Common applications are:-
- Heavy metal poisoning
- Treatment for narrowed arteries
- Treating atherosclerosis
Chelation therapy is administering a man-made amino acid called EDTA into the veins. EDTA is marketed under several names, including Edetate, Disodium, Endrate, and Sodium Versenate). A single treatment can take up to four hours to complete. Patients are also asked to make alterations to their lifestyle e.g. give up smoking, lose weight, change their diet.
Care should be taken with trying this therapy as there are medical implications. A qualified practitioner will be able to best advise you on the risks but chelation therapy has raised controversy in the past.
