You can either navigate or search this directory.

Quick Searching for most common usage is instantly available from the header of any Remedy Index page. An alternative Power Search is available by clicking the Power Search Wizard button.

Multi-dimensional forwards and backwards directory navigation is supported. Pick a starting point from any of the headings in the left hand navigation bar and then choose further refinements (in terms of Locations, Remedies or Services) from those shown to be available. To go back simply click any link from the directory page title which offers a multi-dimensional 'breadcrumb trail'. This form of navigation is formally known as 'drill around' and is a more powerful version of the commoner 'drill down' navigation offered by high end repositories.

More detailed information follows below for those who are interested.

Under the covers Remedy Index uses Repository Technology which means it manages a multi-dimensional information space - this is what your searching - and the different dimensions allow you to focus your search more specifically than with one dimensional Search Engine Technology for example.

|

You can either search the whole Information Space or any subset. All this is available from the Search Header with simple point and click operations.

To select a Section click on one of the corresponding radio buttons in the Search Header.

To select a Category simply pick one from the drop down menu box or to see what's most popular within a category click on a heading from the left hand navigation bar. |

To select one or more Catalogues (used here for Business Functions) tick the appropriate boxes in the Search Header. Only select Catalogues to narrow your search. Select multiple catalogues for 'intersection' type searches. E.g. Selecting ' Therapists' and 'Suppliers' which only match listings which are both Therapists and Suppliers.

Then if you wish to refine the search further simply enter your Search Terms.

You can simply and easily apply the same search with minor modifications by selecting either a different Section or different Catalogues or changing your Search Terms

Search Terms: To search entry details type these into the search box labelled "Query" in the Power Search Wizard. The best keywords are functional and locational E.g. Massage England

The Power Search Wizard is equiped with a query builder.

Simply select from the drop down "for" menu what you want to search, enter the value you're looking for and click add.

Repeat the above for as many search criteria as you need. Additional new criteria are treated as "AND" searches, addtional criteria for same element are treated as "OR" searches. |

These searches may be combined with Category and Catalogue selections. So ticking the 'Therapists' checkbox in combination with the previous search will narrow this search to only include entries for Therapists.

Search Terms can be combined to form Search Phrases by adding a _ between the words of the phrase. So weight_loss will only match entries using the phrase 'weight loss' rather than the individual words weight or loss.

Search Terms are not case sensitive.

Singular search terms are automatically checked for common plural equivalents and the search algorithm has a limited in-built thesaurus to check for synonyms.

To use Local Search simply select the 'Local Search' radio button. If you haven't yet specified a target location you will first be taken to form where you can do so. Once set this location applies to all future local searches until reset. Your settings will be retained for 30 days.

To reset your Local Search click on SEARCH A LOCATION from any page header.

| By default search results are sorted by relevance. Local Search overrides this producing results sorted by distance from your specified target location. Matching entries where distance can't be calculated are listed after those for
which it can and are sorted by relevance. |
|
|
By popular request Remedy Index now uses a stricter search algorithm which requires that at least one of the Keywords plus all of the Catalogues
you enter to appear somewhere in each selected entry. This will return fewer
matches but unlike most search engines you can be sure that every result matches
both the Keywords and Catalogues of your search request.
A useful tip is to simply enter the search terms which matter - don't pad it with irrelevant words or the niceties of natural language. Part words will also do e.g. 'therap' will find therapies, therapy, and therapists. While more Keywords will broaden the match, ticking more Catalogues will narrow it. You are advised to check the relevance indicator for the closest results. |
